Greek antiques part of a cultural exchange

IF you’re planning on visiting a museum some time soon, make a trip to Shanghai Museum so you don’t miss the two antiques on loan from Greece’s Acropolis Museum.
The two pieces are a marble sculpture (520-510 BC), one of the most beautiful and well-preserved sculptures of the Acropolis which still retains traces of its original colors, and a red-figure lekanis (container) lid decorated with a Dionysian scene (350-325 BC).
“This is the first time that Shanghai Museum is using the lobby for an exhibition,” said Yang Zhigang, director of Shanghai Museum. “Despite the small scale, the two pieces actually represent ancient Greek civilization.”
Standing at 1.15 meters, the sculpture (Kore) exhibited in Shanghai was found in 1886. She has long, curly hair, a young face with a soft smile and is walking with one hand lifting her dress.
The Athenian exhibits are part of a cultural exchange program, as the Acropolis Museum is also displaying two Shanghai Museum treasures from October 2017 to April 2018.
The Shanghai Museum signed a cooperation agreement with the Acropolis Museum in December 2015. The exchange of items between the two museums is the first of many steps outlined in the cultural exchange agreement.
