Holiday brings dance music, apple art
Shanghai will play host to two fascinating events during the upcoming National Day holiday.
The 2015 Storm Electronic Music Festival, the largest outdoor electronic dance music festival in China, will be staged on October 3 and 4 at Binjiang Greenland. Scheduled to perform are electronic music heavyweights Tiesto, Skrillex, and Avicii. Tiesto was named Òthe greatest DJ of all timeÓ by Mixmag, while Skrillex has won three Grammy Awards.
The French Apple Art Festival will also run between September 30 and October 10 at Shanghai Chenshan Botanic Garden. The festival will feature some 1,000 apples decorated with images of the Mona Lisa, the Summer Palace and other scenes.
These apples were cultivated at the Les Jardins Fruitiers de Laquenexy in Moselle, France, using an old but refined technique.
As they grew, these apples were covered by black paper cut into different patterns Ñ the areas which were not exposed to the sun did not turn red, allowing artistic patterns to emerge in the lighter-colored areas.
According to organizers, out of 1,000 apples this process will only work correctly for four or five.
The apples will be available to purchase at prices up to 1,000 yuan (US$161).
This is the first time such apples have been displayed outside France.
Also on display will be seven large-scale mosaics each made from thousands of different colored apples.
