Jewelry designer won’t gild the lily
FOR jewelry designer Feng Jia, gold is the most pure and sophisticated metal.
“Nowadays most of the gold accessories on the market are all polished and crafted in various ways, meaning that people can’t see the true beauty of gold. And I want to show it to the public,” says Feng who is currently holding an exhibition showcasing her gold jewelry for the first time in Shanghai.
Born in Beijing, Feng loved making jewelry as a child, and it became her hobby.
Finding no craft college in China that was suitable for her, Feng instead chose to study stage design at university.
Feng worked with directors and artists in designing both modern and Chinese traditional stages, giving her a broad views of aesthetics.
In 2013, the 31-year-old opened her own workshop and studied jewelry making techniques across the world — including in China, Belgium and France.
Simplicity is the dominant characteristic of Feng’s work in which she likes to combine some modern elements with traditional patterns in her designs. Feng insists on hand -produced pieces, saying she loathes mass production.
