Mexican Fernandez makes Shanghai debut
Mexican singer Rodrigo Fernandez gave a 90-minute debut show in Shanghai last week in Pudong.
"I sang my own songs and another 70 percent were traditional Mexican songs," he says. "The audiences gave me great feedback and I enjoyed it very much."
Born in Saltido, Mexico, 22-year-old Fernandez started his professional singing career three years ago.
Known for his powerful voice and performance flair, Fernandez is one of Mexico's most promising artists.
As one of the most talented young singers of modern vernacular music like Mariachi and other variations, he has released two albums.
"The unique way to be a successful artist is being passionate and respecting music," he says. "I am fighting for my dream."
He was awarded the Mexican music award Premios OYE! in 2009, which is an important award presented annually by the Academia Nacional de la Musica en Mexico for outstanding achievements in his native country.
He has performed in the important US markets of Los Angeles and Chicago, among others, as well as Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras and El Salvador.
In Chile earlier this year, he sang at the International Festival of the Sog Vi?∞a del Mar.
During his one-week stay in Shanghai, the city had a great impression on the talented young songster.
"I am looking forward to my next trip to China. I love this place so much and the people here are friendly and warm-hearted," he says.
"I am also willing to contract some Chinese pop music and cooperate with Chinese musicians."
Fernandez will be busy in the following months this year, performing for the 100th celebration of the Mexican revolution.
His third album will be released in September, and new markets in South America will be explored at the same time.
