Museum plays host to poetry ‘magic’

“THE Magic Cube of Poetry” is bringing the delights of verse to the people of Shanghai with a series of poetry events taking place at Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum through this week.

These events include poetry readings, forums and workshops. The program is a collaboration between the museum and organizers with the International Poetry Night in Hong Kong.

An exhibition on the second floor of the museum showcases manuscripts from well-known Chinese poets such as Bei Dao, Mangke and Zhai Yongming. The exhibit also features artworks created by these writers.

The event has also attracted a who’s who of world poets. Fernando Pinto do Amaral from Portugal, Kim Hyesoon from Korea, Ko Ko Thett from Myanmar, Najwan Darwish from Pakistan have all been invited to take part in activities at “The Magic Cube.” Chinese poets participating in the event include Wang Yin, Huang Chanran, Song Lin and Lan Lan.

Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum has hosted poetry events since 2012, when it established its “Poetry Comes to the Museum” project.
