Plenty of children鈥檚 theater options

THE boom season for children’s theater has arrived with a series of plays ready to be staged at Shanghai Children’s Art Theater this summer.
‘Sakura Momoko — Cinderella’
Sakura Momoko is a young girl curious about the world of grown ups and is based on the Japanese Cartoon series.
The puppet show tells the story of how Momoko prepares to play Cinderella at the a school event.
The show will be staged by Hikosen, a Japanese theater company founded in 1966 and known for taking a different approach to puppet shows.

‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” is a children’s picture book illustrated and written by Eric Carle. The story has thrilled children all over the world for the past 40 years.
Canada’s Nova Scotia-based Mermaid Theater has adapted five stories by Eric Carle for the stage. Featuring black light theater, original music and moving images, this performance will include “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “Little Cloud” and “The Mixed-up Chameleon.”

‘James and the Giant Peach’
This musical has been adapted from Roald Dahl’s fairy tale of the same name that also have a big screen version.
The adventure of James starts when he leaves the orphanage and heads to his aunt’s house. A mysterious man gives James a magic potion, which is accidentally poured in the garden. The worms and peaches in the garden absorb the magic portion and become huge. Together with his new family — a ladybug, grasshopper, spider, centipede and earthworm, James rides the huge peach to New York.
