Stuttgart Ballet to perform signature Shakespeare work

STUTTGART Ballet will bring its landmark production “Romeo and Juliet” to Shanghai this October.

Adapted from William Shakespeare’s play, the ballet is choreographed by John Cranko. It has become one of Stuttgart Ballet’s signature shows after its premier in 1962, and today remains one of the most popular versions of the play.

In 1961, Cranko was appointed ballet director in Stuttgart and a new era in the company’s history began. Cranko’s big breakthrough came the following year with “Romeo and Juliet,” which was highly praised by critics and audience alike. Based on Shakespeare’s famous tale of two lovers in Renaissance Italy who find themselves caught between their feuding families, Cranko’s vividly etched characters and breathtaking choreography bring this tragedy to splendid life .

The Stuttgart Ballet has been at the forefront of international dance for more than 40 years, attracting audiences and dance talent from all over the world. The show’s first-class technical skill, and perfect match of music and movement is sure to stun local audiences.
