Suzhou, where creative dreams take off

THE third China Suzhou Creative & Design Industry Expo will take place at Suzhou International Exposition Center from April 18 to 20.

It will feature more than 500 exhibitors from around the world looking to make an impact on both Suzhou and China’s culture and design industries.

The theme of this year’s fair is “city, culture, design.” It will emphasize the function of the design industry as the lead end of a whole industrial chain. It will also stress the value of good design to industrial integration and the importance of talented designers.

Various professional activities will be held during the expo, including the National Youth Creative Work Contest, the 2014 China Design Contest for College Students, the Furniture Design Contest, and the 2014 Suzhou Modern Life Festival.

The expo’s main goal is to establish added value in other industries through excellent design services. Thus professional design teams will come together to serve businesses and other projects.

With an exhibition area of over 32,000 square meters, the expo will have three main exhibition sections — Design Zone, Life Zone and Experience Zone.

The Design Zone will have several theme exhibition halls including one for public art and another for architectural art. It will display creative ideas and works in urban planning. The Youth Design Hall will display award-winning works from national design contests.

The Life Zone will mainly display creative design works for daily use and tourism. This area will include interactive features and focus on modern lifestyles. The zone will be divided into Modern Life Hall, Artistic Life Hall, Cultural Tourism Hall and Creative Cultural Products Hall. The Cultural Tourism Hall and Creative Cultural Products Hall will display souvenirs, including those from the Palace Museum in Beijing.

The Experience Zone will provide visitors with many interactive experiences. It will have a Digital Publication and Game Hall, Movie and TV Culture Hall, Animation Industry Hall and Creative Product Market. The Animation Industry Hall will be the highlight of this area with its combination of comics, board games, cosplay and animation-themed food.

The three-day expo is being co-organized by the Cultural Industries Division of the Ministry of Culture, the Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Department and the Suzhou government.
