Zzzs on the road

THE coming Spring Festival is also a time for travel, but insomnia can rob many people of the energy and strength to enjoy their trip.

Here are some sleep tips for travel.

Usually happy travelers don't have trouble sleeping, but some people are bothered by unfamiliar environment, and changes in temperature, humidity, light, sound and smell.

Overeating and drinking too much coffee and tea can also interfere with sleep.

The first principle to prevent sleeplessness is to stick to your usual timetable for getting up, eating and going to sleep.

Taking a bath before going to bed can help you fall asleep. Soaking your feet for 10 minutes in hot water accelerates the circulation, relieves fatigue, soothes nerves and helps you relax.

A cup of warm milk, diluted vinegar, or lemonade before sleep may help.

There is a saying that "one sleeps best with one's head to the north and the feet to the south." This position is supposed to put the body meridians parallel to the earth's magnetic fields, making it easier to fall asleep.

If all else fails, OTC sleeping pills can help. Staying awake all night is bad for the health.
