Argentine lunch a taste sensation
HELLO everyone!
I work for the Swedish pavilion at the Expo Shanghai. Besides guiding visitors around, I also have a food show on our website, www.swedenexpo.cn, called "Hungry Henrik."
For this week's culinary show I left the Sweden Pavilion's safe haven to see what the Argentina Pavilion's menu had to offer. Walking in the tropical Shanghai heat wondering what that could be, the first thing that came to mind was meat. Since I am a "meat lover" I hoped to find steak on the menu of the restaurant "Obelisco."
I was warmly welcomed by the waitresses and the atmosphere and interior gave me the impression of a modern family restaurant in the Argentine countryside. As I opened the fur-covered menu, the first thing I laid my eyes on was "Grilled Tenderloin" imported from Argentina. For a starter, I had a "Grilled Argentine Sausage" which bustled with flavors, of which garlic and salt dominated.
Then the main course of grilled tenderloin made its grand entrance. The two pieces of steak were accompanied by mashed potatoes and three different sauces. I cut a rather big chunk with my ridiculously oversized steak knife and the first bite made me feel like I was in heaven. The combination of Argentine steak, mashed potatoes and the sauces was, if you are a "meat lover," a gift from above. I wanted this moment to last forever. Sadly though my plate was soon empty.
But the culinary fiesta did not end there as dessert was next. When I was presented with an Argentine pudding with "Dulce de Leche," a thick jam with caramel taste, a sweet and sugary party took place in my mouth. If you are a fan of desserts this is absolutely one you'd want to try. Now filled with delicious food I toured the pavilion but sadly it did not impress me as much as the meal. I said goodbye to Argentina and "rolled" back home to the Sweden Pavilion.
Stay tuned for next week's food wonders. For more photos, videos and tons of fun stuff, please visit our website. Stay hungry.
