THE luxury hotels in Shanghai are getting into the festive mood with a range of great value deals for diners to enjoy on Christmas Eve.
At the JW Marriott, guests can take their pick of a lavish Christmas Eve dinner in the hotel's expansive ballroom. The spread will cost diners 688 yuan (US$103) per person; deluxe tickets are 888 yuan per person, with children eating for 688 yuan per person.
At the more casual JW Grill, on offer is a five-course menu for 688 yuan per person that includes homemade cured salmon as starter, a slow roast beef and lobster tail main and a traditional Christmas pudding with sauce anglaise for dessert.
At the Ritz-Carlton in Puxi there are various tempting offers. The Tables restaurant showcases favorite Christmas dishes from around the world and some seafood surprises. The Christmas Eve buffet at Tables includes expertly paired red and white wines for 648 yuan per person.
At the popular Italian restaurant Palladio, Chef de Cuisine Gianluca Serafin has designed a six-course traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner. The dinner costs 998 yuan and 1,598 yuan with wine pairings.
From Italian delights to Scandinavian delicacies to a warming English pub Christmas, the Intercontinental Shanghai Expo has a wide selection for diners.
Santa Claus will make an appearance on Christmas Eve at Cafe 1188 for a Scandinavian-style yuletide buffet, complete with homemade Swedish glogg, a large seafood buffet and classic Christmas carvings for 688 yuan per person.

At the Eton Hotel Shanghai, the Eton Cafe will be staging its extensive Christmas buffet for 788 yuan per person and its Chicago Steakhouse has a fairy tale show for children, a lucky draw and a special menu that includes sauteed king prawns, pumpkin and mushroom soup, beef tenderloin steak with duck live, Kiwi marmalade and warm chocolate pudding.
The centrally located Longemont Hotel's O2on2 restaurant will hold a Christmas Eve buffet dinner, including a glass of Champagne and a complimentary gift for 388 yuan net per person.
Things have a thoroughly multicultural flavor at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai, where the Christmas Eve buffet offers traditional festive choices plus tandoori turkey along with favorite Chinese and Japanese offerings for 388 yuan, plus 15 percent service charge.
