City Bull for steaks and best of the West

CITY Bull offers big, juicy steaks and burgers, giant prawns, Canadian poutine, salmon steaks and breakfasts with pancakes and real Canadian maple syrup. It's hearty, authentic, family-style cooking in a relaxed atmosphere.

The steak house and bar has four locations, two in Puxi and two in the Pudong New Area.

Canadian Marcel Morin from Montreal founded City Bull in hopes of serving the best food from his hometown.

"City Bull offers the type of food that traveling people crave when they are abroad, and also offers a good selection of food for locals who want to try North American style without actually leaving China," Morin says.

From top-quality steaks to some Canadian specialties, City Bull offers something for everyone.

The emphasis is top quality. City Bull uses Black Angus beef imported from Australia, vacuum packed, never frozen but chilled cool to preserve the freshness. Prices are relatively low: 218 yuan (US$34.50) for a 200-gram fillet mignon steak. Steaks are tender and very juicy, cooked precisely as ordered by the diner.

Fillet mignon and giant prawns is a favorite, as is the grilled salmon steak and rotisserie chicken.

Steaks are served with vegetables, a choice of potatoes and sauces. The mashed potatoes are not mushy and have a nice texture with a touch of garlic.

Traditional Canadian poutine is a specialty. It consists of fries covered with a special poutine gravy and diced cheese. The flavor is rich and bold. At the World Expo Shanghai in 2010, City Bull operated the restaurant in the Canada Pavilion and poutine was the most popular dish.

For family-style Western breakfasts, customers can choose among crepes (such as banana and chocolate), pancakes or waffles with eggs and bacon or sausage. There's Canadian maple syrup and fresh juice.

The menu has been expanded. Jalapeno poppers is an appetizer for lovers of chili peppers. The peppers are stuffed with cheese and seasonings, dipped in flour batter and bread crumbs and then deep fried. They are served with sour cream. Customers can also order hash browns and glazed mushrooms.

Weekly business lunches include burgers, salads and wraps, soups, pasta and Asian favorites.

If you are looking for a night out, City Bull bars offer a wide selection of wines, imported beer and cocktails.

City Bull with its generous space and friendly atmosphere is also a place for birthday parties, celebrations and various events.
