Drink your breakfast with three cups a day
TOAST and jam, eggs and bacon, congee and steamed buns, fruit and yogurt - that's what makes up traditional breakfasts, but there's a new concept of what makes a healthy breakfast.
It's called "three cups in the morning" and it appeals to some health-conscious people.
It includes a cup of aloe juice, a cup of nutritious milk shake and a cup of herbal tea. It is said to provide all you need in the morning for energy, nutrition and hydration.
"This combination has a scientific foundation, though it runs counter to traditional ideas of a healthy breakfast," says Gu Linong, director of the Department of Endocrinology at Peking University People's Hospital and a member of Herbalife Nutrition Committee.
Carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins and minerals, water and fiber are key elements in a good breakfast.
"The three cups provide enough nutrition and energy and it's low-fat, low-calorie and low-cholesterol," says Gu.
Aloe juice, a well-known laxative, is good for digestion and helps eliminate toxins accumulated overnight.
The special milk shake - that you make in a blender - is a mixture of protein powder and milk or soybean milk, combined with fruit or nuts. This provides energy and nutrition. Jujubes, white fungus, black-kernel rice, bananas and other fruit can be added.
The third cup is green tea or black tea to stimulate metabolism.
People may wonder if they will feel hungry after drinking their breakfast.
"No, you won't be hungry," says nutritionist Du Xin, who has been a "laboratory rat" drinking breakfast for over two months.
"It provides enough nutrition, can effectively control weight, keep the body in shape and solve constipation problems," he says.
