MAKING good chocolate is an art. Chocolate should literally melt in the mouth, and there are many flavors, tones and textures.
White chocolate (which is not really chocolate) commonly consists of cocoa butter, sugar, milk solids and salt, and has an ivory or pale yellow appearance. It can have scents and tastes of toast, nuts and fruits.
In Shanghai, there are a few chocolate "hot spots" for chocolate lovers. They include Awfully Chocolate on Wujiang Road and Xiangyang Road S., Hershey's Chocolate World on Xizang Road M. and Godiva in Xintiandi.
Convenience stores and supermarkets also offer a selection of tasty commercial brands, such as Ferrero Rocher, Meiji and Dove, but more imported chocolates are available at City shop, Ole, PARKnSHOP.
Eat the chocolate soon, or store it in the refrigerator.
The Japanese earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis have disrupted production of popular Royce's Nama Choclate. It is currently unavailable at City' Super, a mega lifestyle specialty store in the Shanghai International Financial Center. It's usually priced at around 120 yuan (US$19) for 20 pieces.
