Jiading rolls out the red carpet

Jiading has lined up a long list of events to coincide with the 2015 Shanghai Tourism Festival. The events will kick-off at the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center on September 18. Be on the lookout for car races, Nanxiang’s famous steamed buns, Confucius culture and a sample of rural life.
Car races are especially popular in the district since it’s the home of Shanghai International Circuit, which hosts the annual Formula One Chinese Grand Prix. This autumn and winter the following races will take place in Jiading: World Endurance Championship, FIA World Touring Car Championship, China Touring Car Championship, Sports Car Championship Festival, and the Renault Festival.
There’s also the Skoda Heros China Cycling Championship.
Meanwhile, the 2015 China Auto Salon and the Top City Classic Rally China will be held at Shanghai Automobile Expo Park on the opening day of the festival. Visitors will be able to check out the evolution of automobiles as a variety of vintage models will be on display.
The little ones may be interested in the AMEI World Clown Festival, which makes its debut in Anting Town. An Oktoberfest concert at Crowne Plaza Shanghai Anting and a food festival at Shanghai Yidao Hotel will also take place during the festival.
The Nanxiang Dumpling Festival and Shanghai Confucian Culture Festival are other highlights. This year’s dumpling festival will include teaching visitors how to make these tasty snacks. Coupons can be booked online. A series of Nanxiang folk cultural activities will be held simultaneously.
The Shanghai Confucian Culture Festival will take place at Zhouqiao area. It will include the ancient opening ceremony for a new school semester, a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony, a coming-of-age ceremony, the worship ceremony of Confucius and folk art performances.
Rural life experience and shopping are always two big features of the tourism festival in Jiading. This year, Huating Rural Life Carnival will be held at Huating Renjia, where tourists can go fishing and take in a view of fields.
The annual Cao’an Shopping Festival will take place at Cao’an commercial circle. Expect some good bargains.
Last but certainly not least, Cao’an Tea City will host a tea ceremony performance and free tea-tasting events.
Anting Season of Racing
Date: September 18-November 6
Venue: Shanghai International Circuit
During the Anting Season of Racing, the Shanghai International Circuit will host a variety of races including the 2015 China Supercar Festival from September 18-20, the FIA World Touring Car Championship from September 25-27 and the FIA World Endurance Championship from October 30 to November 1.
2015 China Auto Salon
Date: September 18-21
Venue: Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center
This year marks the fifth anniversary of China Auto Salon, which serves as China’s first professional modified car show. Following the concepts of professionalism, innovation, branding and internationalism, CAS has become a major automobile upgrading and ancillary product exhibition. Thousands of industry professionals and car lovers are expected to attend.
Nanxiang Dumpling Culture Exhibition
Date: September 28 to October 28
Venue: Nanxiang Old Street
Nanxiang xiaolongbao (little steamed buns) are often wolfed down gleefully by hungry diners. This year’s exhibition will include a banquet for 10,000 people, a dumpling competition and do-it-yourself activities.
Shanghai Confucian Culture Festival
Date: September 19 to 30
Venue: Temple of Confucius
To carry forward China’s traditional Confucian culture, the festival will hold a Confucius memorial ceremony at the Temple of Confucius on September 20. A traditional Chinese wedding ceremony and a coming-of-age ceremony featuring traditional Chinese customs will be held at the temple on September 22 and September 23 respectively.
Zhouqiao Folk Culture Display
Date: September 19 to 30
Venue: Zhouqiao Old Street
Traditional operas and dances will be staged on Zhouqiao Old Street during the festival. A fair featuring local specialties and a photography contest with the qipao dress as a theme will take place on Minqing Street.
Huating Rural Life Festival
Date: September 12-October 7
Venue: Huating Renjia

The Huating Renjia will present a series of rural life activities including fishing and a garden carnival.
