Market fresh, naturally
Jiang Sushi offers an abundance of fresh, local ingredients, thanks to its location, next to the Nature Fresh wet market that sells fresh seafood.
The sushi shop mainly sells prepackaged box sets of sushi, although customers can also request for their sushi to be made per order.
There is a seating area on the second floor where hot food options, such as udon noodles, are offered, although most people choose to buy their sushi to go.
Decor is basically nonexistent — though oddly Christmas decorations and fake pot plants hang from the ceiling.
Aesthetics aside, the sushi is affordable, ranging from 15 yuan (US$2.4) to 45 yuan, and simply consisting of rice with seafood such as salmon, tuna salad, salmon roe or vegetable like cucumber and avocado.
Each nigiri is simple and clean. The raw seafood on top is cut thick yet not cumbersome and the rice is packed in such a way that it never falls apart.
Although almost unknown to expats, the shop is a local favorite.
Staff maintains a close relationship with loyal customers, knowing their preferences.
If you’re looking to grab some sushi on the way home, want something for a picnic or need affordable and fresh sushi platters for a party — this is the place.
