Pop over to Char for a weekend liquid lunch

CHAR is a destination bar.

Up on the 30th floor of Hotel Indigo Shanghai on the Bund, Char features great 270-degree views of the Bund, Huangpu River and Pudong skyline.

Julie Donohoe, director of food and beverage, said their philosophy is something along the lines of: come for the view, stay for the drinks.

Starting from April 13, Char is introducing its Liquid Lunch every Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5pm.

Alcoholic beverages start from 50 yuan (US$8).

“It’s the right time to hang out with friends, hang up your coat, let down your hair, relax and unwind in the sun as you celebrate spring at one of Shanghai’s most admired rooftops, Char bar,” said Donohoe. “Here, you can spend a long afternoon leisurely sipping on Martini spritzers, beer or even a glass of Pommery Champagne.”

The lunch menu of snack items has been created by the hotel’s executive chef Vincent Song. Lunch is served in a traditional stainless steel lunch box.

“The lunch box adds a picnic feeling to the experience. We mainly target those who would like to have brunch at weekends. What’s special is that this time, it is liquid that takes the leading role,” Donohoe said.

With an emphasis on natural materials such as dark woods and stone walls, the bar features some quirky modern art pieces and installations. Designed by world-renowned interior decorating firm HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, Char includes a main bar and lounge area along with a large terrace.

Donohoe said the idea was to create “a grown-up lounge vibe that provides the perfect location, whether you are on an intimate date or joining friends for an afternoon of sun, music and liquid.”
