Ribs, burger and orange-float
AS I slurped the final sip of my orange-float I leaned back, took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a second. My stomach was almost bursting. How could this be possible? Hungry Henrik finally full? No, no, but it was very close this time. Let us rewind a bit.
I was sitting at the USA Pavilion, ripping meat off my superb beef ribs. This dish you eat with your hands. I think eating with your hands enhances the taste and I am telling you, the taste of these ribs was astonishing. A thick layer of secret spices covered the ribs and after tearing off a piece of meat I dipped it in a barbecue sauce. It was breathtaking and absolutely one of my favorite dishes so far.
When I finally got all the meat juice and spices off my fingers it was burger time. After all, America is the burger country. In came a grease-dripping bacon and cheeseburger. The ribs were a hard act to follow, but the burger did a good job. Without any vegetables, the meat on meat taste took over the show. As all good things must end, so did this meat frenzy, but there was more to come.
Now it was time for dessert. A chocolate ice cream sundae topped with nuts. I mixed it all together and shoved spoon after spoon into my mouth. In the middle of the shoving tumult I suddenly got a massive brain-freeze, so I had to wait a few minutes before I could continue.
I thought the feast was over after the sundae but kitchen manager Cisca Wikkeling started praising this orange-float. There's soda in the bottom, topped by ice, which is topped by soft ice cream. She told me I just had to try it, so in came yet another dessert. I thought the mix of ice cream and soda sounded strange but as I tasted the fizzy ice cream I quickly understood why she loved it. The orange-float was mouth-watering. Now the end of the lunch had come. It was time to say goodbye to our new American friends and see the USA Pavilion. It shows a series of interesting and fun movies.
