TGI Fridays delivers authentic American flavor
TGI Fridays opened its first store in New York City in 1965. Today, the American restaurant chain is operating 1,000 restaurants in 60 countries.
Known for its delicious food and laid-back casual atmosphere, the iconic bar and grill chain has made a name for itself serving up American classics: appetizer platters perfect for sharing, juicy burgers and desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth.
TGI Fridays has two restaurants in Shanghai that offer local diners an authentic American dining experience.
“Our key objective is to ensure that our guests have the same dining experience that they would have in a TGI Fridays in the US,” said Kek Poh Hean, CEO-China of Chaswood Resources Holdings Ltd, franchisee of TGI Fridays restaurants in Shanghai and various parts of China.
For Western expat diners who are working or travelling in China, Kek said the restaurant offers a taste of home.
Meanwhile, the TGI Fridays team in China will be offering some innovative menu items, adding a Chinese twist to classic American favorites in the months to come.
The ribs are a must-try dish at TGI Fridays. They are also the best-selling item on the menu.
“You have to try the potato skins, which was invented by Fridays in 1974,” Kek recommended. “The Jack Daniel’s Grill series — an exclusive collaboration with Jack Daniel’s since the 1990s — is also a must.”
TGI Fridays offers more than just hearty comfort food. It is also a place for friends to hang out and have a drink.
The casual dining chain is known around the world for its bar and cocktails as well.
The Long Island Iced Tea is a signature cocktail popularized by TGI Fridays in the 1960s. The restaurant is also known for their mojitos.
TGI Fridays outlets in Shanghai now have a whole new look and feel, with vibrant design elements highlighting its fresh new drinks and menu items. The updated design features a spectacular bar and open kitchen, providing a contemporary, authentic, comfortable and inviting ambience.
“We have a sign in our restaurants ‘In here, It’s always Friday’ and we hope our customers have the same feelings when they eat and drink in our restaurants,” Kek said.
The menu is updated at least twice a year. The restaurant will soon launch its new winter menu.
Kek said Chinese consumers are now more sophisticated about American culture and food since they are more widely travelled than even a decade ago.
“But the best form of awareness is through word of mouth, which we will continuously build by maintaining high standards of service and food and delivering the best guest experience,” he said.
