Taiwanese-style hot pot available for lunch and dinner

WHATEVER the season, it is never easy to say no to a good meal of Chinese hot pot.

The Hyatt Regency Shanghai Wujiaochang has started serving Taiwanese-style hot pot in the hotel’s atrium space, where the high ceiling, natural lighting and green surroundings compliment the sizzling seafood, meat and vegetables.

The concise menu makes ordering the hot pot effortless. There are four choices of hot pot broth — organic vegetable chicken, Chongqing chili oil, Tom Yum Goong seafood and Yunnan mushroom.

The first two are priced at 18 yuan (US$2.6) and the others are 38 yuan.

You can order couple of appetizers like organic green salad (15 yuan), popcorn fried chicken (20 yuan) or fried squid (35 yuan), while waiting for the broth to be ready for cooking meat, seafood and vegetables.

The hot pot offers classic meat selections like beef tongue (38 yuan), Australian sliced beef (68 yuan), lamb roll (38 yuan) and more.

The pork neck (38 yuan) is especially tender and juicy, and the lamb loin has a flavor that is not overpowering when cooked with other ingredients.

In spring and summer, many people prefer seafood for its lightness. You can choose from the razor clams, scallop, Norwegian salmon, king prawn, Chilean cod, abalone, green crab and more.

The fragrant Tom Yum Goong broth is especially suitable for cooking the fresh seafoods.

One of the signatures of Taiwanese style hot pot is the meatballs.

The menu features four traditional recipes including shitake mushroom and pork, beef, fish and shrimp.

To taste a little bit of everything, you can also choose the meat, seafood and meatball platters starting from 48 yuan.

Vegetables like enoki mushroom, Chinese cabbage, spinach, baby carrot and freshly harvested bean sprouts and staples including handmade noodles, pork dumplings and rice cake are also ideal for cooking in the hot pot broth that’s already enriched with the flavors of meat and seafood.

On weekdays, hot pot lunch sets start from 78 yuan per person, which includes a choice of broth, seafood and meat as well as an assortment of meatballs, vegetable and staples food.

The hot pot is available for both lunch and dinner. With a limited number of 30 tables, make reservations in advance by calling 2565-1234.

The self-help sauce is 5 yuan per person.

All dishes are subject to 15 percent charge that is inclusive of service charge and tax.
