Blu status to boost hotel's business

RADISSON Blu Hotel Shanghai Hong Quan in Putuo District, the "West Wing" of Shanghai, is the fourth international five-star hotel in Shanghai managed by Carlson Hotels Worldwide.

And now comes a significant moment in the history of the hotel as it is being upgraded from Radisson Green to Radisson Blu, which signifies its flagship position in this region.

Besides the hotel's logo simply changing from green to blue, serious efforts are being made to improve the property and services.

Located in Zhenru Commercial Center and north of the Hongqiao business area, the hotel is within walking distance of Metro Line 11 and Shanghai West Railway Station. Hongqiao Airport is just 15 minutes away while Pudong Airport is 50 minutes away by road.

In addition, the hotel is adjacent to the future inter-city railway and Shanghai West Station Transportation Hub in the east and within reach of the Shanghai-Nanjing Express and the Zhenbei Middle Ring Road in the west.

A pleasant detail found at the hotel is that employees have their pictures printed on the name badges, their smiling faces adding a warm touch to the service they provide.

"Now we have more international staff working with us, to provide more international and professional services to our guests," says Chris Xiao, assistant sales and marketing manager of Radisson Blu.

The price of the hotel is strongly competitive among five-star hotels in Shanghai, and in July and August there will be some special promotions.

Besides the 288 well-appointed, tastefully designed rooms featuring spacious beds and graceful decor, which all ensure a hassle-free and relaxing stay for guests, a wide range of venues for banquet and meeting needs is one of the hotel's most appealing features.

The options include a pillar-less, 400-square-meter Grand Ballroom that can comfortably seat 300 people theater style, and a dedicated conference center with a ballroom of 350 square meters, in addition to five meeting rooms to cater for groups of all sizes.

They are adaptable to different scales of events, with creative catering options, comprehensive audio visual services and experienced meeting staff. The hotel also offers a one-stop business solution inclusive of wireless internet access in all public areas, secretarial services and business center support.

Radisson Blu offers a variety of dining options - three restaurants provide different styles including Chinese, Western and Japanese cuisine.

The Chinese restaurant awaits guests with the very best of Chinese culinary artistry evident in its Cantonese, dim sum and Shanghai selections.

On the ground floor, The Terrace is a 24–hour restaurant where you can enjoy an international buffet dinner comprising freshly made pastas, salads, grilled meat and fish and eclectic desserts, among others.

The new Japanese restaurant Shiki - opened especially for Japanese guests - also attracts many a Chinese customer with its reasonable price, says Xiao.

The hotel also recently hired new Japanese staff members to provide more warm-hearted services, such as meeting them and helping with check-in at the lobby.

The hotel also offers an advanced gym center equipped with an indoor swimming pool - ideal sanctuary for business and leisure travelers who are looking for an effortless, comfortable and memorable stay in Shanghai. A new spa center was also opened this month.

To upgrade both the facilities and services of the hotel, Radisson Blu is now re-decorating some of the areas.

While the official checkout time is from 12pm to 6pm, it can be extended if the room occupancy permits, and a rapid checkout service has been added to offer more convenience.

Free internet access also allows business travellers to access information quickly.

The successful execution of such strategic decisions is closely linked to Stephen Joseph Finlayson, the general manager of the hotel, with rich experience in management.

Having worked at different positions in hotels, from chef de rang to food and beverage manager, from room service waiter to director of sales and marketing, he could be described as a versatile general manager.

It is also worth mentioning that the hotel enjoys easy transportation links to the Formula One racing circuit. This location advantage has provoked continuous increase in customer numbers and the hotel's partnership with F1.
