Grand hotels, a home away from home
THE tourism sector has witnessed a momentous amount of growth in China over the past few years and this year is no different. Tourists, travelers and visitors will be spoilt for choice as several new luxury hotels open their doors for business for the first time in China. Shanghai Daily has drawn up a short list that will cater for every business trip, team tournament, family reunion or just a long weekend getaway.
Conrad Hangzhou
The 50-story, 324-room state-of-the-art hotel provides easy access to the Hangzhou’s downtown recreational and cultural attractions. With Li’an restaurant sitting on the 50th floor, Conrad Hangzhou owns the highest restaurant in Hangzhou and provides unparalleled views over the fast-developing high-tech city. As part of the Raffles City Hangzhou complex, the hotel will officially open in May.
Cordis, Dongqian Lake, Ningbo
Located next to Dongqian Lake, the hotel features 238 spacious guestrooms and villas with stunning lake views and the surrounding mountains. The hotel has five food and beverage outlets and a variety of function rooms with over 1,200 square meters delivering multiple choices to guests. Doors are expected to open in May.
Howard Johnson Jimei Lake Plaza Xiamen
The hotel is located in the core area of Jimei New City of Xiamen, adjacent to the Xinglinwan Business Operation Center. Featuring typical Tan Kah Kee style architecture, which is a blending of a traditional Minnan-style (southeastern part of Fujian Province) red-tile, upturned-eave and Western body. The hotel has 485 exclusive rooms and suites, in addition to a vegetation-covered park close by. The hotel also features over 2,500 square meters of contemporary event and conference space. The hotel is expected to open in the second quarter of this year.
Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Yuanqu
The 303-key hotel is scheduled to debut in May in the garden city of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The hotel, part of GCL Plaza, an integrated commercial complex, is located in the heart of the CBD in the vibrant Suzhou Industrial Park. The hotel is within walking distance of Jinji Lake scenery, Suzhou International Expo Center, Suzhou Culture and Art Center, several high-end shopping malls, as well as the city subway station heading to major local attractions. It provides 303 spacious guestrooms and suites, plus 16 serviced apartments, featuring contemporary, yet elegant décor. All-encompassing views of Jinji Lake and the dynamic city are framed by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Room sizes begin at around 48 square meters, making them some of the largest in the city. And the open bathroom design provides an enlarged sense of space in which guests are able to chill and relax.
Howard Johnson Downtown Hotel Chongqing
The hotel is located in Yubei District, Chongqing, and next to the intersection of three rail transit stations. It has 369 designer-touched guestrooms, restaurants and a grand ballroom which brings guests a truly comforting experience. It opened its doors for business earlier this month.
JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong
The first JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in China will open in Shanghai in the middle of this year. It is only the third JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in the world after the brand unveiled in Miami and Dubai. Located in Pudong beside the Huangpu River, and near Lujiazui CBD, the hotel has 515 rooms, 3,100 square meters of meeting space and six outlets, including an all-day dining restaurant, Chinese restaurant, specialty restaurant, lobby lounge and a bar and a rooftop bar. The design is an innovative display of postmodern architecture that not only resonates with people’s sensibilities, but is also at one with nature. This elegant hotel will deliver a new interpretation of understated luxury and cater to sophisticated, self-assured travelers seeking the JW treatment.
