Radisson Blu offers great value

THE Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai Hong Quan, which was upgraded from Radisson Green this year, is offering winter promotion packages until the end of February 2012.

Apart from the traditional full-day meeting package, the hotel also has a half-day meeting package to give guests more options.

The half-day meeting package was the idea of previous guests, according to Arne Heuwekemeijer, general manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai Hong Quan.

The GM says some guests only spent a half day in meetings at the hotel and then went sightseeing for hours. But they were charged the full-day price.

Heuwekemeijer says the new half-day package will solve this problem.

"I think a good MICE market should be more fun-related, rather than just being focused on business," says Heuwekemeijer. "Allowing guests to go out and appreciate the city is also important. And the half-day meeting package may perfectly meet these needs, giving event organizers the chance to hold meetings and show off something of Shanghai to the guests."

The full-day meeting package at Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai Hong Quan costs 888 yuan (US$140) plus 15 percent service charge per person. It includes a deluxe room with buffet breakfast, complimentary in room high-speed Internet, satellite television channels, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary use of gym and swimming pool, full day conference room rental, working lunch on group basis at The Terrace or U Chinese Restaurant, two refreshment breaks with freshly brewed coffee and tea and assorted pastries, and other meeting facilities, inclusive of bottled local mineral water, candy, flip chart and stationery kit.

While the half-day meeting package costs 788 yuan plus 15 percent service charge per person, it covers most of the services provided in the full-day meeting package, except it provides only a half-day conference room rental and one refreshment break.

Located in Putuo District, the "West Wing" of Shanghai, Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai Hong Quan is the fourth international five-star hotel in Shanghai managed by Carlson Hotels Worldwide.

The hotel's pricing is very competitive among five-star hotels in the city, probably because of its non-downtown location. But according to Heuwekemeijer, that doesn't mean it's inconvenient.

"Many people think Hong Quan is far away. But actually, it takes no more than 20 to 25 minutes to get anywhere downtown," Heuwekemeijer says. The hotel is within walking distance to Metro Line 11 and Shanghai West Railway Station. Hongqiao International Airport is just 15 minutes away while it takes about 50 minutes to Pudong International Airport by car.

More importantly, guests can enjoy all the services of a five-star hotel including gym, pool, spa and professional catering team at a better price. The hotel also provides free Internet, which is very convenient for the business travellers.

Its two grand ballrooms are quite unique and also make it more competitive in the MICE market. It includes a pillar-less 400-square-meter Grand Ballroom that can comfortably seat 300 people theater style, and a dedicated conference center with a ballroom of 350 square meters, in addition to five meeting rooms to cater for groups of all sizes.

The "Yes I Can" attitude that is the core principle among the hotel's staff ensures quality service for guests.

"Our staff will hardly say no, but yes I can, trying to make anything happen for guests," says Heuwekemeijer.

Last year's World Expo brought many things to Shanghai including people, business and a lot of hotels. Heuwekemeijer believes that the MICE market here will keep growing with the support of the local government.

"I think the follow-up events at the Expo site and the coming Disneyland will help keep Shanghai on the map of destinations for many people for years," says Heuwekemeijer, "I see a lot of opportunities for hotels, we just have to grab them."
