Super views from hotel bathtubs

TAKING a long, hot soak in a big bathtub is a great way to relax and let the mind roam free. The experience is enhanced when immersed in a tub that offers great views.

Many upscale hotels in Shanghai provide some incredible bathrooms featuring deep tubs with views of famous landmarks such as the Bund, Lujiazui or Zhongshan Park.

And in many of these bathrooms, the hotels provide a DVD player, flat-screen television and sound dock so guests can plug in their iPods or iPhones and bop to the beat while relaxing in the tub.

Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai in Lujiazui area showcases spacious, well-appointed rooms and suites with views overlooking the historical Bund, the mighty Huangpu River as well as the futuristic skyline of Pudong's financial district.

For extra pleasure, rooms can be personalized with a variety of scents that help set the mood, ranging from light and calming to musky and invigorating. Guests can also choose from three kinds of bath salts from the bath menu. After finishing that soak, slip into the plush bed lined with 800-thread-count fine cotton linens.

A Bose sound dock is available in the room to provide high-quality music and a plasma television is set in most bathrooms.

The Eton Hotel in Pudong also provides splendid night views of skyscrapers and the Huangpu River. Big white square bathtubs with modern designs are equipped in 95 suites while oval bathtubs with elegant outlines are in the other rooms.

The luxurious tubs in the presidential suites have dozens of jets along the sides and bottom. They can help massage the neck, shoulders and other parts of the body.

Hyatt on the Bund has a great location and the hotel has been angled so that most of the rooms benefit from a spectacular view of either the historical architecture on the Bund or the modern skyscrapers in Pudong.

All 631 guest rooms, including 52 suites, feature floor-to-ceiling windows that allow guests to best experience the breathtaking views.

The innovative open bathroom concept is a definite highlight at Hyatt on the Bund. Guests have the option of an open-plan studio or closing the space off for a more conventional bedroom/bathroom space. The bathrooms are spacious and feature stand-alone rain showers and eye-catching mother-of-pearl panels.

In Puxi, Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park Hotel provides rooms with exciting and panoramic city views. And all these views can be enjoyed from the shower or tub.

Each Club Premier Room of Kerry Hotel Pudong measures 51 square meters, offering sweeping views of Century Park from the bathrooms.

Shanghai Marriott Hotel Changfeng Park faces the picturesque Changfeng Park and overlooks Suzhou Creek. It has panoramic views of the park from bathtubs in 85 rooms.

For those looking for a luxurious soak with a great view, the only problem seems to be choosing the right hotel.
