Joey gets busy again promoting her new album
IT'S been 10 years since Joey Yung (pictured right), the award-winning Hong Kong pop singer, made her debut. As part of the celebrations, she performed and autographed copies of her newest album "Very Busy" in Shanghai City Plaza recently.
Joey sang two new songs from the album and received a "sweet" gift from her fans: a portrait they had made of her from candy beans. The singer took part in various vocal competitions from a young age and, once her career took off, she took every opportunity to sing and dance over the past decade.
She is regarded as the "queen" of Asian music circles, especially in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, and maintains a very busy performing schedule.
Q: Where does the name of the album "Very Busy" come from?
A: First of all, I have been very busy through the past 10 years, and I am extremely busy recently promoting my new album.
I keep flying to different places, doing various interviews and taking part in promotions, repeating what I say time and time again. I am also very happy in a busy life. I have lots of friends who care about me, and we hang out together ? I don't feel lonely. I almost feel the same as I feel at home in Hong Kong.
I hope to tell everybody, including myself, to enjoy a busy life and the process of pursuit.
But we can't ignore the important people in our lives, like family and friends, and we should remember to care about them even though we are very busy.
Q: Compared with your past albums, what was the biggest challenge this time?
A: In the past, the songs on the albums were more "egocentric." I choose the songs that I like and ignore the demands and trends of the market.
However this time I managed to find a balance between my favorites and the market.
I was very lucky to meet talented, professional musicians and producers who helped me, like JJ Lam and Han Hong.
My special thanks go to Xu Huanliang who devoted himself to the production of the album.
Q: Looking back over the 10 years, is there anything you regret?
A: I don't have much to regret. I'm a person that is dedicated to my work. I feel secure, comfortable and excited when I am working.
Though sometimes I feel exhausted, it is only physically, not mentally. I share my feelings in the songs, and never get bored.
Perhaps the regret is that I am still expecting my love to show up, but I still consider my work the most important thing.
Q: What kind of person do you like?
A: I think every woman desires romantic love and dependability. And I am no exception. But I prefer to date someone who is not in the entertainment circle.
The men (in that circle) seem to be like children that never grow up. They are not mature enough, pursue excitement and easily get bored.
What I am looking for is simple love, like silent water that will last as long as a lifetime, that gives me a sense of security.
I hope to find someone who can support and protect me in life and career, who can understand my thinking and give useful advice so I can rely on him in everything.
