Experiments to discover the perfect fashion formula
CREATING clothing for international contemporary women is the aim of designer Marco de Vincenzo, a 34-year-old from Messina, in southern Italy.
"Fashion for me is research and experimentation," he told Shanghai Daily.
"We need to stand out with style and innovation, without being over-the-top, but through quality materials and shapes that I call neoclassical."
After graduating in fashion and costume at the European Institute of Design in Milan, de Vincenzo joined Fendi where he has been assistant to Silvia Venturini Fendi on the accessories collection for 11 years.
De Vincenzo has also pursued his own projects with own clothing line. His first collection made his debut in Paris during Haute Couture week in 2009.
In the same year, he won the Vogue Italy award for up-and-coming talent.
"My expectations were many, and of course I was worried by the challenge of creating my own collection with my name. But my enthusiasm prevailed and with every collection I try to improve and innovate," said de Vincenzo.
He has developed a conceptual style focusing on the silhouette and on clean forms and has a predilection for double-sided and laser-cut fabrics, knitwear and heat-sealed finishes.
Symmetry and color contrasts are underlying themes in his collections.
"I don't follow a specific inspiration or role models but there are themes that I love to research and techniques that I prefer," explained de Vincenzo.
He cites using airbrushes, particular graphic or design patterns and use of leather.
"Research and experimentation are always at the very base of my collections."
De Vincenzo has clear ideas of the type of woman his collection will appeal to.
Among his customers is actress Delfina Delettrez who is "young and creative, the same characteristics as my collections," he said.
Recently, de Vincenzo has been to China where he had the opportunity to show his brand.
Once again another Italian designer who wants to bring something new and who has all the means to reach and find success.
