Insights from style setters

HAILING from Taiwan, Diana Tu owns one of Shanghai's most cutting-edge fashion boutiques - Le Lutin, on the second floor of Golden Eagle Square on Shaanxi Road N. She selects all the products by herself from designer studios around the world, leaving a personal mark as she introduces them to the local fashion scene.

My personal style is all about balance. I like to pair feminine dresses with, say, for example, a men's watch. I also don't like to be overdone. I could never walk out of the house with blown-out hair, full-on makeup, and 4-inch heels.

I shop at my own store when I'm in Shanghai, but I do most of my shopping when I travel.

If I have to limit myself to one neighborhood in Shanghai, it would have to be the Jing'an District, where I live and work, though I would probably be pretty miserable if I had to limit myself to anything. I like changes.

My favorite brand often changes from season to season, but right now it's Rochas, Dior and Dries van Noten.

My last wardrobe addition is a Christopher Kane see-through dress that I have yet to figure out how to wear because you can see almost everything underneath!

The restaurants that impress me are Sushi of Gari and Marea in New York, Imperial Treasure in Shanghai for their dim sum, and bisto Paul Bert in Paris.

I collect interesting friends.

The last book that I read was "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking.

My most memorable destination is Bir, a Tibetan village in India, where I stayed near a monastery and went paragliding.

The best things about living in Shanghai are my friends, family and dog.

Another city I would live in is London. I enjoy living in different cities and have already lived in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Taipei. I would love to try London.
Mark Cho was born and raised in London, where he found a passion for men's tailored clothing at 16. After starting in fashion, he took a detour into real estate. In 2010, he realized his dream of starting a classic menswear business, with co-founders Alan See and Ethan Newton, based in Hong Kong and called The Armoury.
My personal style is a little bit of everything, sometimes classic, sometimes ivy, sometimes British but always a little quiet, maybe even a little bit strange, but never slick.

The best outfit I've ever worn is a deep plum-colored flannel two-piece suit with a gray cashmere tie when I hosted my friend's documentary screening in Hong Kong.

I follow fashion news by looking at the Sartorialist and Tumblr, which are interesting, but I try to stay away from trendy things.

I usually shop in the menswear store The Armoury in Hong Kong as I am one of the founders, so I rarely need to buy anything that we don't already have. I do have a soft spot for Albam in London and Sou Sou in Kyoto.

If I had to limit my shopping in Hong Kong I would choose Soho, around Hollywood Road going toward Sheung Wan. There isn't anything for me to buy but it's a pleasant walk in a usually quiet area.

My favorite brand is Hermes. I think they hold their products to a higher standard than any of the other major brands out there.

My last wardrobe addition are a brown flannel suit and a cream linen suit.

The fashion item I'm eyeing next are watches, and I would like to get a few lizardskin watch straps, probably dark brown and grey.

My grooming style is nothing fancy. Toothbrush, razor and a pot of hair wax.

The most memorable place I've traveled is Tokyo. I went there for the first time in 2002 to see my girlfriend (who later became my wife) and it was and continues to be the backdrop to a lot of very moving experiences in my life.

The best thing about living in Hong Kong is everyone's can-do, hard-working, no drama attitude. There are so many ideas and projects I want to develop and work on. Hong Kong really helps make a lot of them happen.

The last book I've read is "The Emotional Life of Your Brain" by Richard J Davidson. (He) is one of the premier researchers of how emotions and personality are physically connected to the brain and body.

I would love to live in New York. I used to live there and would love to be able to spend time there more regularly again. Good food, interesting people, a similar energy to Hong Kong but a little more diverse and spacious.
