Air Asia Shanghai route

AIR Asia, the biggest budget carrier in the continent, will open its first route between Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur on February 19, with prices from 50 yuan (US$8) each way. It will be the Malaysia-based airline's first flight to Shanghai. Some 10,000 tickets at the discount price are available on the Air Asia website to celebrate the opening of the route. Fuel surcharges and airport fees will be around 900 yuan for a return ticket, said airline officials.

There will be six flights a week between the two cities, rising to seven on May 1. The service leaves at 1:45am from Pudong International Airport, arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 6:55am. The return flight leaves at 7:35pm, touching down in Shanghai at 12:45am. The route will be operated by Airbus 330s, which have 377 seats.

At the moment, Shanghai passengers have to go to Hangzhou or Shenzhou to catch Air Asia flights. The carrier has opened routes connecting with 14 Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Tianjin, Hangzhou and Beijing.
