American cancels route
American Airlines will stop flying the route between Chicago and Shanghai as the carrier shuffles international routes to cope with higher fuel prices.
The airline’s direct service between Chicago and Shanghai will end in October. It had announced to suspend the flights between the US city and Beijing.
“Our Chicago-Shanghai service is unprofitable and simply not sustainable in this high fuel cost environment,” said Vasu Raja, vice-president of network and schedule planning for American Airlines.
The largest US carrier by passengers numbers will retain its routes connecting the Chinese destinations with Dallas and Los Angeles.
