‘Do the things you normally don’t do’

DEPESH Seth

Nationality: Malaysian

Profession: General Manager of Sheraton Shanghai Waigaoqiao Hotel

How often do you travel?

Five to six times a year with a combination of short and long trips for either business and leisure.

Objective of travel:

Getting out, being your true self outside of work while enjoying doing things that you don’t get to do normally. I also like discovering and encountering new endeavors from all senses. When on business, it’s definitely about meeting new people and colleagues, exploring new things and visiting competitors.

Favorite traveling style:

Easy going and laid back, but definitely not backpacking.

How many destinations have you already been?

Easily more than 30 countries, but I have yet to visit the African and Oceania countries. Have visited most of the key cities in China but many more yet to be explored.

Q: What do you do when finishing a trip?

A: I always embrace the places I visited and things I did other than recalling the trip with pictures taken. I enjoy sharing great memories and experiences with friends and loved ones.

Q: What does traveling mean to you?

A: Traveling is a getaway; exploring food, destinations and cultures by just being yourself in a relaxed mood.

Q: Do you prefer to travel alone or with family/friends?

A: For business always alone and for leisure usually with family.

Q: What kind of hotel will you choose?

A: I definitely always prefer a Starwood hotel. Location, comfort and convenience is key in selecting hotels. I occasionally venture into boutique hotels if available at destination.

Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel?

A: Location.

Q: What facility or service do you think is necessary at a hotel?

A: Usually a club lounge.

Q: What do you expect most of a hotel for an enjoyable stay?

A: Connecting with associates and warm hospitality.

Q: What do you usually do at a hotel outside of resting in your room?

A: Head to the gym when time permits, having a drink or two if the hotel has a nice bar and walking about to experience the hotel.

Q: How do you book a hotel with an affordable room rate?

A: Book online or direct for a prompt response.

Q: Share an unforgettable hotel stay.

A: Trip to Lijang, we stayed in an extraordinary countryside 20-room family-run boutique hotel directly overlooking the famous snow (Yulong) Mountain. We got one of their best rooms upon arrival. The environment, scenery and atmosphere was exceptional.

Q: What hotels do you look forward to staying at in the future?

A: Quite a few on my list that I need to tick off, especially in exotic resort locations.
