How often do you travel?
Every second week on average.
Objective of travel:
Mainly to attend business meetings or to visit our different offices in China. But of course I also especially love to travel for my vacation.
Favorite traveling style:
It is clearly by air, as it is very efficient and comfortable. After working many years in the aviation industry it is still a great feeling sitting in a plane high above the ground and clouds.
When I finish a journey, I always take some time to work out in the gym or go running.
How many destinations have you already been?
Altogether I have lived in eight different countries and visited more than 100 different destinations.
What does traveling mean to you in your life?
Traveling is most important in my life, of course professionally, but also privately. I cannot imagine a life without travel.
Do you prefer to travel alone or with family/friends?
I am very lucky having a wife and children who share the same passion for traveling and it is great to share the experiences with the family.
Q: What do you value most when choosing an airline?
A: Reliability, service and schedule.
Q: What do you usually do on flight?
A: A flight is for me a moment in life when I have the luxury of time. During day flights I mainly use this time to read the newspaper and during night flights I sleep.
Q: What do you think matters most for an airline?
A: Safety is the highest priority and always comes first. The quality of the service, innovation and customer care also play a very important role in our company, especially in today’s competitive environment.
Q: What special customer requirements should an airline satisfy?
A: On long haul flights, comfort plays a very important role. This is why we presently invest important sums in new products like the new flat beds in Business Class and also in a Premium Economy, which will offer more space and additional service items.
Q: How do you get the most economic airline tickets?
A: Thanks to the Internet and mobile apps, today’s passengers have full transparency of all the available fares. Tickets can be bought directly on an airline’s site, but depending on the required services, of course, also with a travel agent, be it on- or offline.
Q: Share with us an unforgettable flight you had before.
A: This is certainly my first flight in 1979, from Geneva to Zurich on a DC8 flying over the Alps. This impressive view remains unforgettable.
Q: What’s your next destination?
A: I am flying on the Airbus A380 from Shanghai to Frankfurt.
Q: Why are you going to Frankfurt?
A: I will attend a series of meetings at Lufthansa’s headquarters and attend a management workshop.
Q: Is there anything special you do before flying to Frankfurt?
A: I just check the weather forecast in order to pack the right clothing.
Q: What do you do upon arriving in Frankfurt?
A: Since the flight is arriving in the evening I will immediately go to the hotel, spend one hour in the gym and then go for an early sleep.
Q: What places are worth visiting when visiting Frankfurt?
A: During business trips I usually do not have much time, but I can really recommend going to the wonderful old town and a stroll along the Main River.
Q: What local specialties do you recommend?
A: Go to the historic area of Sachsenhausen and have a glass of “apple wine.”
Q: Share an unforgettable experience while on a trip to Frankfurt?
A: Last year’s visit to the Christmas Market in heavy snow. It was just a great, friendly and peaceful atmosphere.
Q: What gifts do you buy in Frankfurt for friends and family?
A: I have to admit that I am not a passionate shopper and I usually do my shopping at the Frankfurt airport. There are some great shops with high quality German products.
