‘Red tourism’ popular with younger people
“Red tourism” is gaining popularity among young people with Jiaxing, Yan’an, Zunyi, Zaozhuang and Xuzhou among some of the most popular destinations. Travel review website Mafengwo revealed the search number of red tourism soared 43.7 percent in the first half of this year.
Chinese tourists are highlighting the historic significance behind tourist attractions and many education tours are taking youngsters to these attractions to learn about red tourism culture, said analyst Feng Rao.
Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province, home to the Nanhu area, where the Communist Party of China’s first national congress moved after it opened in Shanghai; Yan’an, a former revolutionary base of the CPC in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province; and Xuzhou in neighboring Jiangsu Province, the place of the Xuzhou battle and Huaihai battle, are favored places.
