Sumptuous stays at Shangri-La
SHANGRI-LA Hotel, Ningbo towers over the convergence of the three rivers running through the heart of Ningbo.
Such a prime location offers guests many choices to check out some spectacular views. The 28th floor lounge, each river-view room and the Roof Top, which hosts parties, all offer choice views of the waterways and city.
Of course, timing is everything when it comes to views. Ningbo is at its prettiest around sunset, when an orange hue coats the city and the landscape lights highlight various bridges, streets and landmark buildings.
Shangri-La Hotel, Ningbo is only a 10-minute walk from Tianyi Square, the city’s signature plaza, boutique store strip Heyi Street, and Laowaitan, the oldest bund in China. It’s also only a 20-minute drive from both the train station and airport.
Location is just one reason Shangri-La attracts so many MICE (meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition) events. Its spacious, state-of-the-art ball rooms and function rooms provide a combined 5,000 square meters of space.
“This hotel is set for meetings,” said Richard H’ng, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Ningbo. “The accessibility of Ningbo makes it a convenient destination for key markets. Though not a metropolis, Ningbo is close to the sea, and is a city you can get everything at one time.”
Shangri-La’s grand ballroom has the capacity to seat 1,080 people for a banquet. There are 16 other function rooms including a 500-square-meter ballroom and an 800-square-meter welcoming area.
The hotel proudly hosts many guests and events from nearby cities and provinces.
The hotel’s Lobster Bar and Roof Top are two other venues that guests routinely rave about. Both can be used for parties and events.
For example, Lobster Bar hosted a “Fishermen’s Night” theme party last year in its first floor garden. The spacious and private garden has also been used for various types of group meetings
The Roof Top is smaller, but offers panoramic views of Ningbo and is particularly popular among those wanting more intimate gatherings. It will reopen at the end of this month.
H’ng is a Malaysian who has worked in Ningbo for over five months and previously worked in Shanghai for six years.
“The city is welcoming and is comparable to Shanghai in that it can offer many of the same services and entertainments.”
While the Shangri-La does everything it can to please MICE customers, H’ng is quick to point out that Ningbo has much to offer.
“There is much more to Ningbo than Putuo Mountain,” he said, adding that he enjoys biking around Dongqian Lake in his spare time.
