11 held for data-sale website

Eleven suspects have been apprehended for allegedly operating a website which facilitated the illegal sale of sensitive personal data, police said yesterday.
By early August, a website called info1024.com contained listings for over 100 million items of personal data gleaned from businesses such as real estate, finance and insurance firms; and over 300,000 items of data had already been illegally traded on the platform, police said. Police in Baoshan District started their investigation in July after a resident reported that some people were advertising the website on an Internet forum. Police found that on the website, users could buy and sell personal data after registering as members.
