13-year-old boy drives electric bicycle with four others on it
A 13-YEAR-OLD was illegally driving an electric bicycle with four other boys on it, Qingpu District police said yesterday.
Cai Zhiwen, a policeman in Qingpu, said he saw five boys on an electric bicycle during a patrol on June 24.
"I stopped them and the boy who was driving said 'I'm old enough and can be a good cyclist,'" Cai told reporters.
Cai said he told the boy not to drive the electric bicycle and to go home.
The boy didn't know he was breaking the law, Cai said.
Similar cases have been reported.
A three-year-old was seen riding a bicycle in the wrong direction on a road in Qingpu in June. At least eight vehicles had to stop to give way to the toddler. A policeman eventually stopped the toddler before any harm was done.
On May 10, a two-year-old was left alone in his parents car. They left the keys in the ignition. The toddler started the car and hit two sedans and a van.
The Shanghai Juvenile Protection Committee yesterday also urged parents to pay more attention to child safety during the summer vacation after a series of accidental deaths and injuries were reported.
