TWO city pavilions, Barcelona and Dusseldorf, officially opened yesterday at the Best Urban Practices Area.
Surrounded by lots of mirrors, visitors will feel the space enlarge when touring the Barcelona Pavilion, which features old and new areas of the Spanish city.
But what interested visitors most were shirts from the Barcelona Football Club and miniatures of Gaudi's dragon fountain, the most conspicuous city symbol. A replica has been presented to the World Expo site and will stay as a gift.
The neighboring Dusseldorf Pavilion stands for a unique balance between economic performance and quality of living.
Chief Mayor Dirk Elbers said at the opening ceremony yesterday the exhibit will give an idea of life in Rhine metropolis. People will get apples whose date and place of production are traceable by scanning a barcode on the apple package.
