2 are killed, one injured in series of falls

TWO people died and one girl sustained serious injuries in three falling incidents in the city yesterday.
A construction worker from Anhui Province died yesterday morning after a fall at a construction site. The 27-year-old was on his second day at the site at 758 Xizang Road S. in Huangpu District.
The district's work safety authority has launched an investigation.
Around 11am, a woman in her eighties fell to her death from a 24-story apartment in a residential building also in Huangpu District. Residents said she lived with her husband on the 24th floor. Police are investigating.
Around 10am, a 14-year-old girl fell from the fifth floor of Shanghai Shixi Junior High School, Jing'an District, suffering serious leg fractures.
The girl had just finished her third lesson of the day at the school on Wanhangdu Road when she fell.
The eighth-grade student, who has not been named, was rushed to Huashan Hospital. Doctors say she is not in a critical condition.
