2 drivers blamed for moped rider's death

A moped driver was killed after he was first hit by a minivan and then by a bus in Songjiang District, police said today.

And a woman passenger on the minivan was seriously injured in the September 15 accident which police said today was caused by the minivan and bus drivers.

Fu, 24, was riding his moped to work in the morning of that day when a minivan made a left turn and knocked him down. Unexpectedly a bus happened to come from the opposite direction and bumped him out about 5 meters away and crushed his moped into pieces. Fu died at the scene.

After studying the evidences, police ruled that Fu had no responsibility in the accident. It was the minivan driver and the bus driver who did not stop their vehicles when the traffic light turned yellow that caused the tragedy.

In China, if the traffic light has turned yellow before a vehicle reaches an intersection, the driver, instead of attempting to cross the road, should step on the brake.
