2 jaywalkers hit by bus today; one is dead

A Route 63 bus knocked down two pedestrians this morning near the intersection of Henan Road and Haining Road, killing an old woman and injuring a middle-aged woman, Xinmin.cn reported.
The bus was driving on Haining Road and was about to make a right turn when the two women suddenly ran into its lane and the driver was too late to stop his bus.
The old woman was rolled over and the middle-aged woman was hit to the ground beside the bus.
Firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene and rushed the two women to a nearby hospital where the old woman was pronounced dead and the other woman was vomiting and given a CT scan.
Police are now investigating the cause of the accident.
It is reported that the intersection has no traffic lights and no zebra crossings. People have to cross the road through an overpass.
