2 men escaping high-rise fire plunge to death

TWO men fell to their deaths early this morning when they tried to escape a high-rise blaze on Tiantong Road near Fujian Road N. in Zhabei District.
The victims, who were not identified, were seen hanging on the edge of a 17th-floor window at about 6:40am to evade raging flames in the room.
One witness said glasses were falling from the window and the fire shot up from the room. The two men in their 30s hung there for about one minute then fell from the 17th floor to the 4th floor.
They were found dead at the scene and their bodies were removed after police came.
A neighbor next to the victims' room said there were a lot of clothes in their room which could easily catch fire and their room was used as an office and warehouse.
Police and firefighters searched for fire hazards on every floor of the building. The cause of the fatal fire is still under investigation.
