2 remain missing after tragic bush hike
RESCUERS yesterday found another backpack belonging to one of the lost Shanghai hikers in Zhejiang Province.
One body has been recovered but two people are still missing.
Rescuers said they were now looking for bodies as the possibility of survivors was extremely remote.
The search will continue for another 10 days if necessary, according to Jingning She Autonomous County government.
Three Shanghai hikers were swept away by a flash flood last weekend while exploring Luxi Gorge with 15 other hikers in west Zhejiang.
One of the missing, Zhang Lin, was found dead on Tuesday. His body was cremated yesterday.
A Zhejiang local tour guide was also swept away. He was found alive and only slightly injured a day later.
The newly found backpack belonged to Liu Nuo, one of the missing hikers.
It was located on the river bank about 1,500 meters away from where the accident happened. The shoulder straps were well buckled, according to rescuers.
The backpack of another missing man, Liu Yujie, was found on Tuesday.
"We recognized the pack," said Wu Lanping, Liu Yujie's girlfriend who rushed to Zhejiang on Sunday.
"I don't know whether it's a good omen or a bad one."
The AIG insurance company will be responsible for compensation.
All 18 members of the hiking group bought insurance before they set off.
