2 suspects detained in killing of taxi driver

CITY police said yesterday that they detained two suspects in the robbery and slaying of a taxi driver in the suburban Songjiang District two months ago.
Police said the two men, surnamed Liao and Xiang, escaped after they took 700 yuan (US$108.80) and killed the victim, Lu Lianjun of the Shanghai Jinjiang Taxi Co on the night of May 26.
Police said they soon identified Liao and Xiang through surveillance cameras around Changxing Road and Fanjia Road, where the car was found, and from descriptions given by area residents.
The pair were caught last Wednesday in southern China's Guangdong Province and were brought to Shanghai yesterday, police said.
Liao and Xiang showed up on July 21 in Puning City of Guangdong and were caught with the assistance of Guangdong police.
The suspects admitted all the charges, police said.
