2,000 ballroom couples join IDSF Grand Slam

UP to 2,000 pairs of dancers from 30 countries and regions have gathered in Shanghai for three international dance competitions.

They will compete in the Grand Slam Final organized by the International DanceSport Federation, the IDSF Open Standard Shanghai, and the National DanceSport Championship, all to be held in Luwan Stadium over the weekend.

The events include the world's top 12 pairs in Latin dance and international standard dance respectively to show off their skills in Samba, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Paso Doble and the Jive.

Eminent dancers include Zufar Zaripov and Anna Ludwig-Tchemodourova from Austria for the Latin dance, and Sadecki Andrzej and Nawrot Karina from Poland for the standard.

International dancers are scheduled to visit local schools and communities today and tomorrow morning before the competition.

"The event will promote the ballroom dance among local Chinese," said Yin Guochen, secretary general of the China DanceSport Federation.

Most of the Chinese sport dancers are slightly above the average level, according to him.
