21-year-old man killed in game parlor violence

A young man died in a gang fight early this morning in a video game parlor in Shanghai's suburban Songjiang District, police said.

At least four people were involved in the fight, witnesses said, and Songjiang police are investigating the case.

The fight broke out around 5am when the 21-year-old victim surnamed Zhang was playing a video game with two girlfriends in the parlor on Jiangxue Road. A quarrel between Zhang and three other men there soon escalated into a fight. Zhang was beaten by the trio with iron rods. He tried to escape but collapsed in a dark lane behind the video game parlor, witnesses said.

The three men fled the scene with scooters.

One of the two girls was also injured in the fight but was not in a serious condition.

Local police are still chasing the suspects this afternoon.
