26 charged over city inferno
A TOTAL of 26 suspects said to be involved in the fire that killed 58 people in a residential high-rise at Jiaozhou Road in Jing'an District last November have been charged with abuse of power, taking bribes or being responsible for serious accidents, as the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate Prosecutors' Office finished its investigation.
The suspects include Gao Weizhong, former director of Jing'an District Construction and the Transport Committee, Yao Yaming former deputy director of the committee, Huang Peixin, legal representative and manager of Shanghai Jiayi Building and Decoration Engineering Co, and Dong Fang, legal representative and general manager of Jing'an Construction Group. These four should bear major responsibility for the inferno, said prosecutors yesterday.
