2L limit for checked-in liquid luggage

AIR travelers must limit the total liquid in their checked-in luggage within 2 liters, or they will have to discard the excess liquid, according to the air authorities.

The security measures have been introduced to meet International Civil Aviation Organization rules, officials with East China branch of the Civil Aviation Administration of China told today's Shanghai Morning Post.

Each bottle of liquid should not weigh over 500 grams, and passengers can't take any liquid on board as carry-on baggage.

Officials said the restrictions are not related to the World Expo to be held in Shanghais from May through October.

But they did note stricter security checks will be applied at airports during the event, particularly at its opening and closing sessions and on some specific occasions.
