3 road accidents leave 3 people dead in Shanghai

THREE people was killed and several others injured in three separate road accidents yesterday in the city.

In Zhabei District at about 7:30am, a car struck two elderly women as it turned left at the intersection of Hutai Road and Yichuan Road. The women, both in their 80s, were taken to a local hospital where one was later pronounced dead and the other was in a critical condition last night.

Witnesses claimed that the silver vehicle involved in the accident was moving fast as it turned.
Meanwhile, two men riding on a motorcycle died in a collision with a truck in Pudong's suburban area at around 11:30am.


In the third accident, seven passengers were injured when one No.123 buses went into the back of another in downtown Huangpu District at noon.
An injured passenger, surnamed Yao, said: "I was bounced from my seat and thrown to the ground suddenly."
Yao, who suffered back injuries, was traveling in the first bus which was stationary at the crossroad of Jiangxi Road and Jinling Road E. The rest of the injured, including one driver, had cuts and bruises.

The city traffic authorities said they were investigating the accidents.
