3 women catch thief with knife

A theft suspect wielding a knife who tried to sneak an item out of a downtown convenience store during lunch time yesterday was stopped and subdued by three women, including two who worked at the store and a woman in her 60s, witnesses said.
The women included the owner's mother. Police said it happened at a Family Mart convenience store on Shimen No. 2 Road in Jing'an District about 12:07pm when a man tried to steal an item.
Witnesses said a staff worker and the store owner, both women in their 30s, stopped the man and demanded that he purchase the item, but the man refused.
The man cut the women on their hands and blood spilled on the floor, but even so the three women didn't stop fighting, according to witnesses.
He ran out and the women chased him, and one ended up on the ground holding one of his legs, the older woman holding his shirt, and the other gripping his arms, until the police arrived.
