42 streets to leave fallen leaves intact
Fallen leaves will be left on 42 streets in 12 districts this autumn to create a colorful seasonal spectacle, local greenery authorities said yesterday.
Visitors to Sinan, Julu, Hengshan, Yueyang, Yongfu, Hunan, Wukang, Xinhua, Yuyuan and Fuxing W. roads, among other streets, will be able to appreciate not only the golden canopies overhead, but the vibrant foliage beneath their feet.
Last year only 15 streets could retain their fallen leaves, the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau said. These streets feature a variety of tree species such as plane, soapberry, gingko, acacia, camphor, sweet gum, pistache and goldenrain.
Xuhui and Changning districts have the largest number of such streets, each with eight.
Siping and Liyang roads in Hongkou District; Yuanjiang, Nanfu and Fudu roads in Minhang District; and Huale Road in Qingpu District have the earliest turning foliage.
