6 killed, 10 injured in holiday road accidents

SIX people were killed and three injured in three road accidents during the May Day holiday in Shanghai, while 12 passengers on board a company bus managed to escape after the vehicle veered into a river.
About 9am today, a mixer truck collided with an electronic moped on the intersection of Shenzhuan and Jiasong highways, killing the moped driver and his 11-year-old grandson on the scene, local news portal Xinmin.cn reported.
According to the report, the man was driving his grandson to a relative's home for a newborn celebration lunch.
Among the other two deadly accidents yesterday, a car collided with a cargo truck about 11:30am on Shenjiahu Expressway, resulting one man and his parents-in-law dead and his wife injured. The 41-year-old wife was driving the car when the truck hit its rear end. She is in critical condition.
Half an hour after the family accident, a sanitation truck lost control when backing and bumped into a shanty at a construction site on Menggu Road. A 50-year-old worker from Anhui Province was killed and two others injured, Xinmin.cn reported.
Traffic police are investigating the three accidents.
Also yesterday, a shuttle bus of China Maritime Museum carrying 12 people rushed into a river in the Pudong New Area en route back to downtown. But all the passengers are lucky enough to escape, the Oriental Morning Post reported.
According to the report, nine people managed to climb to riverbank and seven of them were slightly injured. The other three passengers moved to the bus roof through broken windows and were saved by firefighters later.
The accident is still under investigation.
